Laura Lang started singing at the tender age of four and sang on her first radio show when she was just six years old. At that time, Laura started singing in four part harmony with her siblings, becoming frequent guests on that same radio show and local t.v. stations. Laura continued to perform regularly with choirs, in musical theatre, and as a soloist throughout her school years.
Laura started teaching voice, harmony, guitar and piano while still in high school after which she continued on to university where she graduated in three voice majors, Opera, Jazz and Performance.
Laura’s professional career then took her all over the world from Las Vegas and Philadelphia, to Nassau, Aruba, and Tokyo, headlining a variety of multi-million dollar casino shows, performing solo cabaret acts on cruise ships, and headlining in theatres, five-star hotel lounges and show rooms worldwide as a singer, dancer, and pianist.
Laura was also the founder of the extremely popular Vancouver-based Cabaret Jazz Harmony trio, 'A STRING OF GIRLS' who easily sold out every show with long waiting lists for tickets.
Laura’s educational background, coupled with a highly successful performing career, is an unbeatable formula for coaching – Laura is a well known and popular singing and piano teacher with a large roster of students (Voice Lessons).
A vocal harmony expert, Laura has taught harmony and led choirs for groups of adults and children for the Vancouver School Board, Community Centres, adult weekend music retreats and workshops (e.g. the “Georgia Straight Guitar Workshop” adult weekend retreat), the Sarah McLachlan Outreach Project, as well as many private and community groups. Laura regularly gives her students the opportunity to sing together and perform solo in concerts.
Laura Lang has recorded several popular solo CD’s during her travels, as well as a group CD with “A String of Girls” and appeared as special guest/harmony singer on many others over the span of her career.
In 2007, Laura founded FAT CHANTS & SING CITY to share her love of singing, and give others the opportunity to take it to the next level by performing in front of an audience. Due to Laura’s reputation within Vancouver's music scene and her proven expertise, FAT CHANTS & SING CITY have grown immensely and have become unique, popular and highly regarded musical forces in the local choir scene. In fact, FAT CHANTS is Vancouver’s ONLY community Jazz choir, and SING CITY is Vancouver’s ONLY Pop/Rock choir, with a long list each season of excited new singers wanting to join.
FAT CHANTS & SING CITY have been invited to perform in Vancouver’s July 1st Canada Day celebrations, at major benefit events including the "Heart & Stroke Foundation Gold Gala", St. Paul’s Hospital Foundation “Lights of Hope”, made a special appearance for Vision Vancouver with the Mayor of Vancouver and have performed as invited guests with other well respected choirs. FAT CHANTS & SING CITY continue to receive media attention, and have been included as back-up choirs in the recording studio.
